Christoph Kohstall leads a new research effort at 1X, the humanoid robotics company. He joined in January 2025 when 1X acquired Kind Humanoid, the company he founded and led as CEO, which built one of the first LLM-powered walking humanoids. Before that he was a researcher on Google's Brain team and founded Nixie Labs, maker of a wearable flying camera that won Intel's Make It Wearable competition. He holds a PhD in physics from the University of Innsbruck and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in experimental quantum physics at Stanford.
