Matt Kraning is a partner at Menlo Ventures, where he invests in AI, national defense, robotics and cybersecurity. He joined the firm in April 2025 after co-founding Expanse, an attack surface management company that Palo Alto Networks acquired for $1.25 billion, where he later served as CTO of Cortex overseeing generative AI development. Before Expanse he worked as a data scientist at DARPA. At Menlo he sits on the board of Wispr Flow and has backed Heaviside Industries and Walden Robotics. He holds a PhD in electrical engineering from Stanford.
